BotIntelli — Chat Interface User Guide
This guide explains how to use the Chat Interface: where to open it, how to send messages, attach files, switch assistants/agents/workflows, and what to expect from responses.
What Is the Chat Interface?
The Chat Interface is where you have a conversation with an AI assistant, agent, or workflow. You type messages, optionally attach files, and receive replies. Sessions are saved so you can resume from All Chats.
Where to Open the Chat Interface
- From Assistants: Sidebar → Chats → Assistants → click an assistant/agent. The chat opens with that assistant selected.
- From All Chats: Sidebar → Chats → All Chats → click a past session. The chat opens with that session and the same participant (assistant, agent, or workflow).
- From Dashboard: Use a “New chat” or “Start chat” shortcut; you may be asked to pick an assistant first.
- URL: The app uses a single dashboard with
?view=chat(and often a selected bot/session in state). Opening a chat from the sidebar or All Chats loads the correct participant.
Complete User Journey
Step 1: Choose Who to Chat With
- At the top of the chat area you see a dropdown that lists:
- Assistants (bots you or your org created)
- Agents (including default/system agents)
- Workflows (saved workflows you can run as a chat)
- Select one participant. The chat history for that participant (or the current session) loads below.
Step 2: View the Conversation
- Message list: Your messages and the assistant’s/agent’s/workflow’s replies appear in order. Each message shows who sent it and when.
- Scroll: The area scrolls so the latest message is in view. Long replies (including markdown, code, lists) are fully visible.
Step 3: Type and Send a Message
- Input field: At the bottom, a text box (placeholder often “Type a message…” or similar).
- What to enter: Type your question or instruction in natural language.
- Send: Press Enter or click the Send button. The message is sent and a reply appears when the system responds (you may see a loading state).
Step 4: Attach Files (When Supported)
- Attachment: Use the Upload or attachment icon next to the input to attach files (e.g. PDF, images, documents).
- What to attach: Only types allowed by the app (e.g. PDF, images, text). The exact list depends on your plan and the participant (assistant/agent/workflow).
- After attach: Files are uploaded; you can type a message and send. The participant may use the file content to answer.
Step 5: Continue or Start a New Chat
- Continue: Keep typing and sending; the conversation continues in the same session.
- New chat: Use Back or All Chats to leave, then start a new chat from All Chats or by selecting another assistant/agent/workflow.
Input Fields and Actions

What You See in Responses
- Text: Normal paragraphs, lists, and formatted text (markdown where supported).
- Code: Code blocks with syntax highlighting when the reply includes code.
- Links and structure: Clickable links and structured content when the model returns them.
- Workflow runs: If the participant is a workflow, you may see execution steps or outputs as part of the reply.
Tips and Troubleshooting
- No reply / loading long time: Check your connection. For workflows or heavy agents, responses can take longer.
- Wrong participant: Use the dropdown at the top to switch to the correct assistant, agent, or workflow.
- Session not found: If a chat from All Chats doesn’t load, it may have been deleted or you may lack permission; try opening another session or starting a new chat.
- File not accepted: Ensure the file type is supported and within size limits; remove the file and try again or use a different format.
